I became interested in medicinal plants while living with a Native American woman and her two children in Wimberley, Texas in the late 1970s. She was always healing her kids with the plants from the yard and I thought this was the best affordable health care system around!
I moved to Colorado, continuing my studies on plants and journeyed to Belize during this time to study with some Mayan midwives. My studies with Dr. Rosita Arvigo lead me to massage therapy. I graduated from massage school from the Crestone Healing Arts Center as a Certified Massage Therapist in 2001. We began each day with Qi Gong, Kundalini Yoga or Tai Chi, followed by meditation and class. After graduating from massage school, I went back to Belize to study abdominal massage with Dr. Rosita Arvigo who developed massage techniques handed down from Don Elijio Panti, a shaman, which benefit the reproductive and digestive organs. In 2006 I received the Professional Teachers Training in the Arvigo Techniques of Mayan Abdominal Massage.
I have studied medicinal plants for some 30 years and taught herbal classes at Western State College, in Gunnison, Colorado, lead plant identification walks at Crested Butte Wildflower Festival, hosted the Medicinal Herb Pow Wow and Alternative & Holistic Health Conference. I wrote a column called The Superb Herb for the Crested Butte Chronicle & Pilot Newspaper in Crested Butte, Colorado for 14 years and published a book The Superb Herb: A Guide to Rocky Mountain Herbs. I had my own massage studio, herbal consultation and herbal business in Colorado called Mountain Medicinals.
I returned to Texas in 2006, and obtained my Texas Massage License. I opened Chiron Holistic, an herbal apothecary and therapeutic massage studio in 2009 in Corpus Christi, Texas. With some 1200 hours of education and 18 years of experience in massage therapy, I incorporate an eclectic mix of techniques for each individual client using Swedish, Sports, Myofascial, Myoskeletal, Shiatsu, Jin Shin Do, Tsubo, Reiki, Pranic, Mayan Abdominal, Maternity, Onocology, Burn/Scar, Medical, Foot Reflexology, Cupping, Moxibustion, herbs and Aromatherapy.
